First, the annotations at the back were very interesting to read and had a nice explanatory aspect. 
But, second, they did not help me to enjoy the book more. 
It was extremely boring in my opinion, but it was nice written and had a good point. 
Overall, it is a war story and like almost in every war story the soldiers are mostly children still trying to be a "man" so like the main character always trying to become strong and proof himself that in the end he becomes a killing machine. 
Like a said, very good message but it was just not written for me. 
Still I recommend this book for everyone interested in this topic!
